Build confidence by change your thinking patterns. You have the power to attract sales to you by changing your thinking patterns.
Martin Seligman, famous psychologist that studies happiness, has performed a large amount of research in the area of optimism and has a formula for changing negative self talk to positive self talk. Seligman explains, in his book Learned Optimism, that there are three different ways to look at an event.
Pervasive: In other words, how often does this even happen, all the time or sometimes? When good things happen to you, do you find yourself saying "things like this happen all the time?" Also when bad things happen do you find yourself saying "things like this hardly happen at all." If that is your self talk, then consider yourself a positive person.
Permanence: In other words, how long will this situation last? A short while or forever?
Personalization: In other words, did you cause the event or was this event inflicted upon you?
For example, if I drive two hours to see a client and then, when arriving I was told the client was too busy to see me, I may have the following self thought; "I drove all this way and prepared for the meeting for nothing. That's just typical. What if all my calls this week end like this? I am not going to have anything to count as closed business. Why didn't I confirm the meeting like I should have?"
The comment, "This is typical" indicates that I think this negative event will always happen and will happen all the time. The event is not limited in time to this sales call. The event will carry on in time for the rest of the week. "Why didn't I confirm the meeting like I should have?" illustrates that I think I had control of the situation and should have prevented it. On the other hand, I could change my thinking and instead say to myself, "You know it is the holiday season and deadlines tend to catch up with people at the end of the year." I just turned my negative thinking into positive thinking. I turned the negative situation to a positive one by causing the negative event to be temperary and not caused by me. I will follow up with the client with confidence and will use positive thinking when I approach the cusotmer.
Take advantage of this research by evaluating your-self talk. Identify if you think negative events will last forever, happens to you all the time, and you cause the negative event to happen. Build confidence by explaining positive events as lasting forever, is attracted to you, and is of your doing. Changing the nature of your-self talk will allow you to use the Law of Attraction to your favor.
